Wellington Warlords
Welcome to the Wellington Warlords, Wargaming in the Capital since 1972
Warhammer
Fantasy Battle:

An Introduction

HopperThe Old World is once again being torn apart by war. 6th edition of the greatest ever game of Fantasy Wargaming has been released and it is great. The new rules do away with characters who overbalance the game, the magic has been toned down and the game once again centers around what it should, core troops.

The world of Warhammer is a hectic one. The lands of the Empire are constantly being invaded by the barbaric Orcs or being undermined by the vicious Skaven. The Dwarves have been attacked from beneath their apparently impenetrable mountain fortresses while the High Elves hide away on their island fending of raids from all outsiders especially their malicious cousins the Dark Elves. There are lots of other races in Warhammer but as you can see there is a lot of atmosphere and background that makes the game a lot of fun.

Ever QueenThe game is based on the Games Workshop 28mm range and while they are not the cheapest figures out there, they are certainly the best. The new range of plastics is also helping reduce the cost of getting started.

Generally the game is played on either and 8 x 4 foot or 6 x 4 foot table with the average game being 1500-2000pts. It only uses 6 sided dice and you generally need a lot.

While a Warhammer army is a reasonably large investment ($200-$400 depending on the army) you can start small. We are running a narrative campaign (a campaign with no real structure other than developing character and continuity between battles) and we are starting at only 500pts so that armies can be developed over time.

MinotaursTo get into Warhammer the best place to start is Game Workshop. There is one in Wellington in the Mid City complex. Their phone number is 382 9532. Mark, Nathan and the guys will be able to get you started properly.

If you are interested in getting into Warhammer or are looking for an opponent, contact Alan Borthwick.
