Wellington Warlords
Welcome to the Wellington Warlords, Wargaming in the Capital since 1972

President's Report 2003

By Paul Goldstone (presented at the AGM held in February 2004)

  • Membership and Finances: 110 members, with $1700 in the current account. We also have nearly $10,000 in a long-term account. This reserve is principally due to several years of strong membership and being incredibly fortunate with low hall rent. Membership fees are $40 annually.

  • Hall: Members are satisfied with the church hall. Please clear away rubbish and stack the table before you leave the hall!  The hall is open from 10am to 5pm every Saturday fortnight.

  • Meetings: Saturday meetings are well attended, and a few have been crowded. Thursday evening meetings have not been well-attended.

  • Terrain: Peter, Gareth and I cleaned up the terrain closets, and they have been moved to the other side of the stage. This year the club acquired basecloths and have added more hills. We have also purchased copies of rulebooks for the convenience of players.

  • Tables: There is an occasional shortage of trestle tables. The committee has found a supplier of trestle tables. I suggest we wait until early next year, and apply for McGills Bar community charity to pay for them.

  • Dispatches and website: Are going very well. Many thanks to Gareth and Sean.

  • Call-to-Arms: CTA went well. A few people have suggested improvements regarding publicity and lay-out of tables, which will be incorporated for next year’s CTA. Peter Dunn did an enormous amount of work to make CTA a success.

  • Other Events: Warlords have attended other conventions, namely Fields of Blood and ValleyCon. Peter Dunn has organised a number of very enjoyable and well attended “mini-conventions” at Johnsonville School hall (thanks Peter!).

  • NatCon: The Hutt club are running NatCon for 2004. Allen Yaxley (Pres. of Hutt club and a Warlord) has done a lot of work for this, and it promises to be a fun event. The Hutt club have asked to borrow the Warlords’ convention tables.

  • Other Clubs and Church: Battlefront have sponsored Flames of War. The good relationship with GW has been very pleasing, who provided us with very generous sponsorship for CTA. More recently a group of fantasy players from the GW shop visited the Warlords (and a few said to me how friendly our club was).

There was one letter of complaint from the church about the hall being left in a mess, not being vacated at 5pm and parking in reserved car parks, but the matter was amicably resolved.

  • New Zealand Miniature Wargames Federation: Is effectively defunct. It serves no purpose, and costs the club money and time. There is a motion for our AGM to support the winding up of the NZMWF, which I urge members to support.

  • The Committee: has run smoothly. In general the committee did good work in being duty officer and helping out with Call-to-Arms. Special thanks to Peter Dunn (Evil Treasurer), Gareth Ackrill (Editor Dispatches), and Sean Smith (webmaster) who have done fantastic jobs. I’d also like to thank Richard Fields, Mikail Woolf and Rhys Bachelor for their reliable contributions to the club, especially as Duty Officers.

  • AGM: Is at midday on Saturday 17th.

Quite apart from the election of a new committee, there are issues to be discussed. It is important that members attend the AGM!

If you have another item for the agenda, please email myself or Peter Dunn.

Thanks to all members who have helped clean up the hall after meetings, helped with Call-to-Arms, or who have taught a newbie the rules and attracted new people to the hobby.
