Hi
story

Hive Fleet Balrog is thought to be a breakaway fleet from the remains of the Tyranids first assault on the galaxy, Behemoth, due to the older genus creatures found in its forces. Members of the Blood Angels 3rd Company on deep space patrol discovered it in hibernation in deep space shortly after the battle on Ichar IV. Brother-Captain Hunt, the commander of the Strike Cruiser, ordered the boarding of the fleet. They were ambushed and they took heavy casualties as they retreated to the teleport point. As the strike cruiser broke off, several dormant escort ships awakened, and pursued. Taking severe damage, they managed to escape to the warp. A month later, when an Imperial patrol arrived, all that they found were three boarding torpedoes.

Over the last decade, this fleet has been seen as part as several Tyranid assaults, and was recently seen as part of the Tyranid assault on the Rhion system. The fleet is being trailed by a Blood Angels force led by Brother-Captain Hunt, and have sporadically engaged the fleet, suffering heavy casualties, with Captain Hunt being severely wounded several times in these engagements.

On the planet Sovyan the fleet engaged an Eldar Pirate Force raiding the planets Imperial colony, with the Tyranids losing a large amount of its ground forces to the Eldar for little apparent gain. When the Imperial relief force arrived, consisting of Brother-Captain Hunt’s Pursuit Fleet, the Tyranids retreated. A Chapel of the Order of the Martyred Rose soon reported engaging a Hive Fleet matching Balrog’s Description, on the edge of the Tiberius Sector.

The fleet encountered by the Order of the Martyred Rose was later confirmed as Balrog. It was tracked deep into sector Tiberius. Forces of the Blood Angels Third Company, under Captain Hunt, recently arrived from Sovyan. They engaged the Fleet on several planets, and shadowed the Bulk of the Hiveships as they gravitated towards a minor world, Kithrup. Due to casualties sustained fighting against Fleet Balrog and the Eldar on Sovyan, Captain Hunt’s force broke off for repairs, and forces from the local Imperial Guard and Adeptus Astartes moved to engage the fleet. It broke off its attack on Kithrup after minor losses, and “disappeared”.

Due to multiple encounters with the Fleet during the recent “Warpstorm” conflict, and other skirmishes with Imperial Forces, it is thought that the Fleet has established a Hive World in the area. Destroyer elements from Battle Fleet Tiberius are scouting uninhabited systems in the Area for the location of the Fleets hiding place.

Observed Mutation Point of Hive Fleet

Due to this Hive Fleet having been encountering the heavily armoured forces of the Imperium, this fleet has started to develop more specialised creatures. Most commonly observed are the Creatures commonly referred to as “Spinegaunts” and specialised a “Hormagaunt” sub-species. The Spinegaunts use the Spinosus Manus “SpineFist” weapon organism that have been coated with stronger venom than normally seen. The “Hormagaunt” sub-specie appears to be similar to the standard creature seen throughout the Hive Fleets, except it has enlarged adrenal glands, making a much faster opponent in close combat. Balrog uses a warrior species mutation, which appears specialised in close combat, having evolved the sharpened claws most commonly seen of the Genestealer species.

Hive Fleet Balrog’s larger creatures are of the older seen genus of the species, similar to the creatures of Hive Fleet Behemoth. It Carnifices have been evolved for close combat, though in the reports from Order of the Martyred Rose they describe one of the creatures with ranged weaponry. The consort mind creatures, the Hive Tyrants of Hive Fleet Balrog have been developed for speed across the battlefield, moving as rapidly on ground as an air based creature with its increased number of legs, and have thus earned the Nickname “Spider Tyrants”.

Commonly Seen Creatures in Hive Fleet Balrog

HT-672021 “Acklay”

The first seen of the “Spider Tyrant”, it has been given the name Acklay due to its resemblance of a creature used in Gladiatorial Arena matches on a local Desert World. A vicious opponent to face, it has been the bane of many over-confident Adeptus Astartes companies due to its incredible speed.

STATUS: ALIVE

C-3263827

A Famous creature in Hive Fleet Balrog, it is the main anti-armour creature in the Fleet. Recorded it has over 76 armour kills, including several Baneblade battle tanks. Though often heavily wounded, it always seems to reappear later among the Hive Fleets forces.

STATUS: UNKNOWN, PRESUMED ALIVE

My army history is put together from how well I have done in tournaments, and regular opponents, e.g. Brother Captain Hunt being Warlords regular Edward Hunt, The Eldar Pirates being a game where Gareth Ackrill’s Dark Eldar horribly massacred me. While not an official part of The Tiberius sector’s History, it has been in enough competitions centered on the sector that I based it around it.
