Wellington Warlords
Welcome to the Wellington Warlords, Wargaming in the Capital since 1972

About Warlords

                                                                                  Who are we?

Wellington Warlords Incorporated is Wellington's oldest, and New Zealand's second oldest*, wargaming club. That is, we play with toy soldiers!

We cater for all periods, all rules and all toy soldiers. What we do, is provide an opportunity for people with a common interest to get together, play each other and learn more about their hobby.

* The oldest wargaming club in New Zealand is the Otago Miniature Tacticians Society (OMTS) in Dunedin. The OMTS was founded in 1970.

                                                                 Some history

The club's very first meeting was on St Patrick's Day, March 17, 1972. The first game was an American Civil War battle, played using Airfix plastic toy soldiers. It was at Paul Stairs' house, and the other seven gamers there were Anthony Dennehy, Paul Graham, Richard Graham, Michael Mirfin, John Petritakis, Mark Stevens and Gary Vignaux. The second meeting was at Victoria House, a student hostel at Victoria University. The third meeting was at St Luke's.

Until early 2001 we still met at St Luke's and had about 55 members. Since we moved to the Khandallah Presbyterian Church hall our membership has increased dramatically. At last count we had 106 members.

Our members play a wide variety of periods, historical ones from ancient to modern warfare, as well as science fiction and fantasy using Games Workshop Warhammer 40K and Warhammer Fantasy Battles rules.
