Date & Time
The
Convention will be held on the weekend of 16 and 17 August 2008. The
hall will be open from 8.00am on each day. In general, competition
games will start no later than 9.00am (so be prompt) and will conclude
no later than Convention ManagerGreg Rae will be Convention Manager (this means “He is God” – so don’t annoy him). Any questions, salutations, complaints etc should be directed to him. He will be handing out name tags so will be easy to find. RegistrationDownload the Player's pack and registration form (PDF), and here's a word version of the rego form. Registration is $40 up and until 31 July 2008 after which it will be $50. No registrations will occur in the last week except at the discretion of the Registrar (in consultation with the relevant Umpire). On the first day of the convention you will be expected to be at the hall from 8.30am to receive a name card and the umpire's briefing. Parking There is ample off street parking available if you are bringing a vehicle. Food and SnacksGiven the proximity of the Kilbirnie Shopping Centre, the Warlords will not be running an a la carte dining service. However, we will be providing drinks and snacks on sale. There will also be tea and coffee available for a nominal charge. Behaviour etcWe realise this doesn’t probably need to be said but we will anyway. Remember the convention is the meeting place for a mix of ages and temperaments. On that basis, please keep your behaviour (including language) to a level that the Convention Manager wouldn’t be embarrassed to hear in front of his elderly maiden aunt. This extends to apparel – if your T-shirt, jacket etc could possibly cause offence, please leave it at home. Please remember, personal hygiene is not optional, it is mandatory. AccommodationContact the Registrar if you need any suggestions. However, please note that as the registrar is not in the habit of using motels, hotels, or back-packer accomodation in Wellington, the following links may actually be of more use:
Public AttendenceThe convention will be open to the public so expect to see some visitors walking around. If they pick up your figures without asking, be polite but firm. The organisers are mindful that some people can be stupid and/or rude but would ask participants to remember that this is the Warlords’ showcase event – so don’t resort to violence in the first instance. Trade StandsA number of companies will be providing trade stands so remember to bring your cash…. might be worth asking for a convention discount! Bring & BuyAs is the norm, the Warlords will be providing a Bring & Buy table. As is also the norm, we will not be responsible for any items on the table etc. For more information

Finally… Remember to have fun! Be polite to the Umpires and organisers, they are enthusiastic amateurs rather than paid professionals!
Contact: Steve Hodgson Over the past few years, the demo games put on at Call to Arms have become a real highlight of the convention. The standard has increased every year and they now represent an important opportunity for the Club to showcase the hobby. As Registrar for this year's Convention, I am asking for expressions of interest in running games at this year's event. The size of the venue puts some constraints on the number of demos we can have and it is important therefore that the games we do present cover the gambit of different genres and rule sets. Given the standard of games in the past years, there is now an expectation from the Convention organisers that the games that are presented meet a number of criteria. First and foremost, they must be visually appealing, showcasing a particular aspect of the hobby. Secondly, they should be aimed at catching the public interest and be supported by visual material etc that explains what is being presented and what is going on. Thirdly, there is an onus on participants to explain to interested bystanders the nature of the game and generally answer questions about the hobby. So if you think that sounds like you then drop me a line on outlining your proposed game and what your requirements are in terms of tables and the like. As usual the Club will offer a trophy for the best demonstration game.
